|Hi, and welcome to the virtual home of the Shandaken-Allaben Hose Company, company 2 of Phoenicia Fire District. We serve the eastern half of the town of Shandaken, NY. We are located at the top of Ulster County in the heart of Catskill State Park. Our station is on Route 28 about 10 minutes past Main St Phoenicia. We are 100% volunteer. This means that all of our members carry pagers which are little radios that alert us of an emergency. What this means is your neighbor, friend, that guy that passed you on 28 could be one of our members. We are a fire department for the community run by the community.|
This weekend is going to be busy for our firefighter as on Saturday we have our mandatory Dept. physicals and Sunday we will be heading out once again to the Woodstock training center for another change to play with fire.
Shandaken has recently invested in two new pumps for pumping out basements. These Honda pumps are being placed into service on Car 45 and on 45-21, our mini pumper.
12/30 2100 hrs Shandaken Ambulance gets dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on route 42 in Greene County because Lexington EMS was unresponsive. SA arrives and finds a car into a live power pole which has been knocked down and one patent who RMA. So they dispatch Phoenicia Fire District. Lucky it was a Wednesday and all company 2 members were already at the firehouse. So they responded to a wires down call. Your local heroes redirected traffic of route 42 for six hours and returned home on 12/31 at 0300 hrs.
On November 11 the Phoenicia Fire District as well as West Hurley, Woodstock, Olive, Sawkill, and some state forest rangers responded to a major brush fire. The Fire was off Old Route 28 in the Woodstock Fire District. As members arrived the put on Indian packs, which are full with water, to put out any fires. There were many off road fire apparatus on scene providing fire suppression as well. Overall the fire was successful contained and everyone went home safely. Hopefully pictures will be up soon...
This was a live burn drill which took place at the Woodstock Fire Department training center. This training center is basically just a brick building with three stories, some windows and stairs. To reproduce a structure fire we lit some pallets and other flammables on fire...
Something to think about:
You know your an EMT when you've had more meals in an Ambulance than in your own dinning room.
